Behind the School Uniform

-My review based on News-

We are born to be virtuous and pure. it is the environment that determines the destiny of us all. Indeed, behind those happy faces around us, there are some of us who are quite unfortunate, with a heart-wrenching, miserable story which was written in nowhere but deep down in their hearts.

The recent news where a thirteen-year old student who gave up her dignity and became a prostitute has shocked we Malaysians deeply. For heavens, she is THIRTEEN and has a bright future ahead! Apparently, it was due to monetary desires and also that she came from a broken family.

-Why?-

Yes, it is undeniable that a broken family is a key factor. her parents were divorced, and that she lives with her grandma and was not close with her mother. She needs love. Love from the family. Luckily, her mom has lodged a police report earlier and brought this matter to light.

However, it was also internet misuse that caused her downfall. It was reported that she got acquainted with a bad company via Facebook, and that a friend named "Kate" has introduced her to this unsavoury industry. Besides, there were links to Adult sites as well.

From the news, as well, it was told that this girl was voluntary for this industry due to monetary desires. It was also reported that her bag was found to have RM1000 cash and a brand-new cellphone, filled with steamy pictures. I must agree that money makes the world go round. with money, you can buy anything you want. However, is it necessary to give up one's self virtues just for that extra money? Do students need THAT much of money? I beg to disagree.

-The Result?-

She was to be sent to the Henry Gurney's School for girls in Malacca to rebuild her personality and bring her fresh hope. However, she has clearly stated her reluctance to go home: "I can go anywhere to study but home!!!"

-What Do I Think-

Personally, I hold strong to the opinion that self-respect must be placed as the main priority over money. Money can always be earned, but once self-respect is gone, it is gone forever! Furthermore, students are supposed to study well and shine in their days to come. We can always enjoy monetary bliss in our later lives.

As for family, well, how about family counselling? Parents should foster strong relationships with their children and understand their young souls well. Of course, if they pamper their children, it will backfire.

Back to the Internet, I wish to question: which teenager does not visit the Internet-AT ALL? I believe most of us, me included, are fans of the Internet. Use it wisely, not for any steamy purposes! Internet can be a boon or bane for us all. If utilised to the fullest, it can actually be a wholesome one-stop arena for information, entertainment and social life!

Let us pray for her so that she will turn into a new leaf, and for us teenagers especially girls, please beware of any unseen pitfalls-in the Internet, and stay strong to our self esteem!

Good luck.
