Lynas-Is it Worth?

This is from my friend in Facebook.

Dear PM,
We will only accept Lynas with 2 conditions:
1) Ask your parents, your children and grandchildren stay at kuantan near Lynas. Don't worry, its safe.
2) Give accomondation and job at Lynas to those who hit people yesterday and said "Hidup Lynas!!", let them stay there with your family as long as Lynas is still operating...

Then you can start Lynas...

懒人嘛,我就长话短说。不然,我用英语讲吧,不要介意哦。。。。。。

Malaysia is about to own the largest rare earth factory soon following China, which had dominated the rare soil industry worldwide for over 30 years. Built in Gebeng, Kuantan, this factory is invested by Lynas Corporation, Ltd, an Australian rare earth mining company.

Pros:

If the rare earth mining project begin, this industry in Malaysia will contribute to 20% of the supply of rare earth worldwide. If mass produced, this industry certainly will bring a handsome RM17billion of revenue annually.

Yes, it is good, but wait! Someone must have gotten a tragedy behind his mind.

  • The rare earth industry is obviously harmful to the environment, thanks to the highly radioactive and harmful thorium content in it. What about the waste disposal? Yes, Lynas have planned to establish a large storing system which has a capacity so large that it can contain waste accumulated for 20 years. Do they know the detrimental effects of the radiation released over time to the people nearby?
  • To transport rare earth from Australia to Malaysia is simply ridiculous, un-green, uneconomical and time-consuming. 3 months? That's just nonsense! Why not Lynas just carry out the industry in Australia itself?

  • Oh yes, I am really freaking forgetful. Didn't the authorities say that Lynas is safe? If Lynas is really THAT safe, then why the Australian government shuns away from Lynas being built in Australia? It offers a handsome revenue, so handsome that it will get everyone drooling for it! Nobody is going to give money-making items to anyone else for sure-unless the banes outweigh the boons.

  • They must have forgotten the disaster of the rare earth industry in Bukit Merah back in 1986. Japan who laboured for this, right? (I forgot the name of the company) Which left many homeless.
  • Australia is around 20 times larger than Malaysia. They most have more space for the plant, right? If they refuse it, something must be fishy there.
  • Why rare earth? Malaysia has many natural resources itself...

Please, think about the children who were yet to face the cruel realm; think about the people who had contributed to the country. think about the environment. Think about our country. Think about our home.

RM17 billion. Yes, it is a large amount. What if we have to pay for the price of the entire KUANTAN? Is it worth? The capital in a state will become a no-man's area. Isn't it sad?

Think about us. Stop Lynas.
